Chi Gao

President

Chi Gao is a junior at Smith College with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Mathematics. Chi participated in the TSI program Guangxi site 2009 and was impressed by the positive impact TECC had brought to the local education in rural area of China. With the belief that education and cultural exchanges of the younger generation are crucial to the development of the human society, Chi is now working with all the motivated individuals at TECC Smith chapter to promote a new project, Chinese Connection for Children (CCC). She believes that TECC will serve as an international platform for long-lasting social ventures and will create the sense of social responsibility and awareness among today’s youth.

 

Jiaxi Li

Vice President

Jiaxi (Stephanie) Li is a sophomore in Smith College. She is the vice president of TECC Smith Chapter this year. This past summer she participated in the TSI program in Sichuan. This once a life time experience provided her an opportunity to get to know volunteers of diverse backgrounds. She really enjoyed the hard work and the fun time spent with other volunteers. She is looking forward to develop the new chapter in Smith and bring more opportunities to fellow students.

 

Qing Li

VP of New Project

Qing is a sophomore in Smith College, pursuing double major in Economics and Government. She had a wonderful experience volunteering in Qinghai Province with TECC last summer. Students and teachers in Qinghai Province, with their eagerness to receive higher quality education, led her reconsider what the meaning of volunteering is. She believes that gradual small efforts will finally result in huge difference. This year, she joined TECC Smith Chapter, and aimed at providing more opportunities to volunteers as well as developing the new program in Smith. Qing plays violin in Smith Orchestra, and always loves the last movement in every symphony most.

 

Caitlin Spence

VP of Publicity

Caitlin Spence, a junior at Smith College with a major in engineering and minor in East Asian languages and literatures. These academic choices represent two of her greatest interests, and both of them really draw her to TECC. As a Smith College engineering student, using technology and innovation to further social justice is a dream comes true. As a student interested in China, adding that to the mix only makes the whole package more rare and enticing. In TECC, She sees a true tool of empowerment for several diverse populations, and a heartening departure from apathy. She is very glad to be introduced to TECC, and excited to be involved.

 

Xinhui Zhai

VP of Fundraising

Xinhui Zhai is currently a sophomore in Smith College. She’s in charge of fundraising for TECC Smith this year. She attended the TSI program in Sichuan, China this summer. Working with student volunteers coming from a good variety of backgrounds, she was thrilled to find out how well they worked together and how much fun they had while making actual impacts. She had such a great experience that she would really like to share this opportunities to more intellectual individuals!

 



Yang Li

VP of Technology

Yang is a junior from Smith College, majoring in Computer Science. Besides computer and technology, she is also interested in educational outreach in the global community. Grown up in Xi’an, a major city in western China, she had witnessed the educational needs in the rural areas around her home town. She is excited to be involved in the TECC and have the opportunity to organize a TECC chapter at Smith College. She is looking forward to the future development of TECC Smith chapter.



Yurong Deng

Treasurer

Yurong is a sophomore major in environment science and policy,minor in economics.In 2008, Yurong spent 3 weeks in Pattaya, Thailand, provided voluntary service in the Pattaya Orphanage, vocational school for the disabled at the Fr. Ray Foundation. With the unforgettable experience, Yurong decided to commit herself to spreading the love and benevolence. Later, her experience in mangrove conservation made her aware of the importance to relief poverty and consolidate education. She believes the role TECC plays is necessary to shorten the educational gap between US and China,and such an experience can help to access her future goal.



Wenxin Cai

Secretary

Wenxin Cai is a sophomore at smith college, majoring in Biology. She dedicates herself to create cultural events of Smith TECC new project—Chinese Connection for Children. Her motivation to join TECC is that she wants to promote cultural exchanges between Chinese students and American families. She enjoys working for what she does is for a great cause of the society.
